Our team here at United Business Group have huge experience in carrying out a range of essential electrical services, keeping companies and staff safe all over the UK for over 20 years.
Portable Appliance Testing or PAT Testing is the process of checking electrical items for safety through a series of visual inspections and electronic tests. Much like an MOT for your car, most companies elect to carry out the test annually in order to ensure they are not providing staff with potentially faulty or dangerous equipment. Anything with a plug can be tested and tests can be scheduled out of hours if required for business continuity.
Usually conducted on a multiyear cycle, Fixed Wire Testing is essential to determine the ongoing safety and reliability of electrical wiring within the building. Whether your premises is owned or leased, it is the responsibility of the company rather than a landlord to ensure the safe wiring throughout. Most companies conduct this test regularly in order to ensure compliance with insurance policies and are provided with an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR), highlighting any areas of remediation required.
Often carried out in conjunction with Fixed Wire Testing, the Thermal Image Test allows us to highlight any problems that may not be visible to the naked eye. Loose connections, circuit overloads, faulty equipment, corrosion and high resistance can all be highlighted with this test – preventing issues in the future that can also lead to electrical fires.
When installing cables into new or existing premises you need to ensure that it suits the technical requirements of the circuit or network that it will be operating within. Create safe, efficient and resilience across your premises by getting the right cabling installed for the right purpose. Our team can manage the project to ensure that all power & data cabling is installed with the greatest efficiency, delivering a high performance network.
Throughout the testing process any areas of concern will be highlighted and remediation may be necessary. Some issues may be critical whilst others could be advisory. In either circumstance our team of qualified electricians can take care of any works needed to keep your business safe and secure.
The simple answer is as often as you deem sensible. It varies as different organisations will have very different requirements, but as an employer, you have a duty of care to your staff and visitors for a safe working environment. Most of our customers carry our PAT tests yearly with Fixed Wire and Thermal Imaging Testing every 2-3 years.
Equipment such as Servers, manufacturing machinery, plant equipment etc that is in use 24/7 often has to have a visual safety inspection in lieu of a full electrical test. We are able to test this equipment if a window of downtime can be provided, but if not then a full visual inspection will take place.
The majority of testing can be done during working hours with minimal disruption to your day to day business operations. However, if you work in customer-facing environments, have equipment in regular operation or other factors which would make it inconvenient to test during a normal working day, then we can schedule out of hours works to take place. These can be anytime 24/7 to ensure you receive the absolute best service and minimal downtime.
Whilst the carrying out of PAT Testing is not a legal requirement, every company does legally have to maintain electrical equipment in a safe condition. Without testing regularly there is no way of knowing as to whether the equipment is safe or not. A lot can happen in a year, which is why the majority of our customers choose to PAT Test annually and carry out larger scale Fixed Wire & Thermal Imaging Testing every 2-3 years.
We have engineers and electricians across the UK, giving full coverage of the UK. Should you require large scale testing at numerous locations this can be covered in phases or as one project and scheduled accordingly.
